189 feared dead after plane crashes in Indonesia

A Lion Air plane crashed on the sea just a few minutes after taking off from Karawang, Indonesia on Monday. The plane carried a total of 189 people, of which only 24 bodies have been recovered.

Rescue officials aren’t expecting any survivors at this point. Indonesian aviation has struggled adhering and complying with safety regulations in the last several years. Search crews were able to recover the plane’s “black box” where all the flight data is stored and further investigation will be conducted to determine what went wrong.

A total of 300 people are working with the National Search and Rescue Agency and are praying for a miracle at this point.

According to the NSRA deputy chief Budi Wiryanto, he said “We are waiting for the miracle from God,” hoping that they will find any survivors.
