Woman loses job after racist rant caught on video goes viral
A viral video was circulating on the internet recorded by Mary Garris where a white woman, Susan Westwood, was seen drunk and belligerently harassing Mary and Leisa Garris, who are black. The scenario was that Mary was visiting her sister in Myers Park, an apartment complex in Charlotte, North Carolina. When Mary was leaving, her car would not start, so she proceeded to call AAA. As they were waiting on the tow truck, Westwood began harassing them yelling at them racial stereotypes and threats for simply standing outside in the complex parking lot.
The video shows “#SouthParkSusan,” as Westwood has been nicknamed, saying things like “Is your baby daddy here? Mmm, girl girl. I got you. I got your, girl, girl. […] You’re not going to sell drugs here.”
The white woman is heard boasting her $125,000/yr salary to the Garris sisters. Charter cable, the telecom company that was paying her such salary fired her as soon as they found out about her shameful actions. Patrick Paterno, a company’s spokesperson said: “The incident recorded in Charlotte is a blatant violation of Charter’s code of conduct and clearly disregards the company’s commitment to inclusion and respectful behavior. As such, Ms. Westwood’s employment with the company has been terminated, effective immediately.”
