US Citizens spend more on healthcare than other countries

Americans are spending 16.9 % of their gross domestic product (GDP) on health care, while the world average is 8.8 %.

According to the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services, the National Health Expenditure Accounts (NHEA) confirmed that U.S. health care spending grew 4.6 percent in 2018, reaching $3.6 trillion or $11,172 per person.

The nation's Gross Domestic Product, health spending accounted for 17.7 percent in 2018, but according to a report in Health Affairs released in February of 2019, the GDP is expected to rise to 19.4% in 2027.
