George Pell: Cardinal convicted of child sex abuse but keeps position as cardinal and Vatican treasu

An Australian court found Cardinal George Pell guilty on five charges related to the sexual abuse of two 13-year-old boys. Although the verdict was reached in December of 2018, the conviction was only announced recently on Feb 26, 2019.

Despite the conviction, the Vatican had decided to hold him in his position as Cardinal and Vatican treasurer.

He was charged for raping two 13-year-old choirboys and being involved in other sexual acts with those same boys.

Back in the 1970's Pell was accused of assaulting boys in a swimming pool when he worked as a priest in Ballarat.

For sexual crimes that date back to the 1970s, Pell is being sued in the Supreme Court of Victoria.

The civil claim was filed on Wednesday in the state of Victoria, where a man is seeking damages that include lost wages, medical expenses and psychiatric injury.

At the time of the incident, the man was a ward of the state at the St Joseph Boys Home in Pells home town of Ballarat.
