Our dreams occur during several stages of our sleep, but the role they play in our life is not fully understood.
Here are some notable theories to review.
Therapists Take
Our dreams may be ways of facing emotional scenes in our life. During our dreams, we may make emotional connections with our feelings that are harder to make when we are awake. So, a dream can be a way for our emotions to act out feeling, thoughts, and experiences we have recently been facing.

Fight-or-flight training
Amygdala is the most active area of your brain during sleep and is closely associated with our flight-or-fight-response.
A dream can be a way of getting you ready to deal with a perceived threat.
Memory aide
According to the American Psychology Review, sleep helps to store our memories.

Nightmares
Nightmares can be caused by anxiety, worry, or sometimes as a reaction to medications.
Nevertheless, if you have nightmares on a regular basis, you may have a sleeping disorder.
Consult your physician if your nightmare causes the following:
-cause you to be afraid about going to sleep -lead to frequent interruptions of your sleep -bring about other sleeping or mental problems
