At the time of the crimes, DeAngelo worked as a California Police officer through the 1970s and '80s but was not arrested until 2018 when DNA evidence linked him to multiple crimes, according to BBC.
The report added that investigators had to create a family tree that dated back to the 1800s to identify him as a suspect and after following DeAngelo and securing a piece of DNA evidence, they were able to link to a string of crimes.
