Toddler dies trying to save family dog from a burning building


A toddler in Arkansas has died after trying to save the family dog by running into a burning building, family says.


23-month-old Both Loki Sharp, and the family dog died in the house fire in Gentry on Saturday just after 5:00 PM.


Gentry Fire Chief Vester Cripps expressed to NBC News that three adults and two children were at the home when the fire started. Cripps stated that he believes that while the family was trying to put out the flames and call for help, Loki ran back into the house to try and save the family dog.


The mother, Deshay Wilson, wrote on Facebook


"Cherish every waking moment with them!!!! We love u bubba and we know your in a better place!!!!" he wrote on a joint Facebook page with Loki's mother, Deshay Wilson.

"I just wanna stop here and say never take your children for granted. Cherish every waking moment with them!!!! We love u bubba and we know your in a better place!!!!"


A GoFundMe page has been set up to help cover the costs of the funeral and other expenses.


The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is believed to have been caused by an overloaded circuit.


According to the fire chief, the home did not have working smoke detectors.
