5 ways to turn a bad day around

5 ways to turn a bad day around

"Where is the moment we needed the most You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost They tell me your blue skies fade to grey They tell me your passion's gone away. And I don't need no carryin' on"

You no doubt recognized those lyrics to Daniel Powter's hit song Bad Day, and all of us can relate in some way to the emotional and mental impact having a bad day can cause.

So, what are some ways we can turn our grey skies into blue?

Change your routine

If you find yourself stuck in a rut emotionally then chances are that it's time for you to change up your routine a bit. Now, I'm not suggesting skipping out on work but perhaps we can add things to our day to make it more pleasant.

For example, could we incorporate a workout routine in the morning?

Can we take a walk in the park for lunch?

Can we catch the sunset in the evening?

Changing up your routine may be just what the doctor ordered to get you feeling back to your old happy self.

Call a friend

You have seen those games shoes where a contestant can call a lifeline to help them with an answer they don't know. When the friend gives the right answer, it takes the contestant closer to their money goal.

Similarly, calling on the right friend can help us reach our goal of a happy and productive day. It may take the form of a phone call or sharing a morning coffee to start the day. At any rate, a good friend can provide the needed strength and comfort to help us get to our happy place.

Count your blessings

It is so easy for us to focus on everything that went wrong that day but why not change our focus on everything that went right!

Did we wake up on time for work today? Perhaps not, but we probably work up on time last week. Did we fail to finish a report? Why not focus on all of the work that we did complete and find satisfaction in knowing that we are doing our best.

Set realistic goals

Set realistic goals for yourself on things you would like to accomplish this week. Completing the task will help us feel accomplished and give us the emotional and mental strength needed to tackle the bigger obstacles we have to face this week or month.

Do what you can to improve bad situations

By working to improve your situation will help you feel productive and accomplished. In addition to helping you reach your goals, you will also feel great that you did what you could.

Bad days will come and go but if you remember these 5 tips you will navigate through them like a skilled tour guide through the Amazon jungle.
